What does Success mean to you?

Live Interview with Nicole Greenfield-Smith: Part Two

This is the second instalment of a fantastic interview/conversation I had over on Nicole Greenfield Smiths Summit recently! Check out the blog for more.

“We’re all motivated by different things and ultimatelty, it’s how well we reach our own desired outcome that measures our success. It’d be great if we could all stop measuring our own success based on other peoples desired outcomes.”

There are many successful people out there, really successful, yet they don’t have a tribe of people supporting them – are they missing something?

I think it depends what success means to you, right? Because for them, potentially, success is just about earning the big bucks more so than creating change or finding deeper connection. It’s a very personal thing and depends on what’s important to you. There’s no judgement here, we’re all just doing our own journeys and we find the right people and path for us.

For me, success is about ‘how many people’s lives I can change for the better?’. I’ve never been motivated by money.

My partner said to me the other day; have you thought about doing a YouTube channel? Yes of course I have and I will get right on that when I have done the 20billion other things on my to do list. He said you can really monetise it you know. I paused while my brain did a flip as I tried to understand what he’d said. You see, it had never occurred to me to ‘monetise’ it. If I was going to do a YouTube channel, it would be to reach and help more people. I explained this to him, to which he reponded “yeah that’s ok for you to say though, because you already have a successful business…yes my darling boy, I have a successful business, BECAUSE I was never motivated by money. There was a dissonance between us. It was almost a complete lack of understanding of each others motives and intention. And that’s ok, because we’re all motivated by different things and ultimatelty, it’s how well we reach our own desired outcome that measures our success. It’d be great if we could all stop measuring our own success based on other peoples desired outcomes.

So, I think that it depends what you want from your business, right? For me, I wanted a beautiful community, I have made so many friends through my networking community, beautiful friends who totally get me, who understand if I’m having a shitty, off day and they hold space for me, they just they get it, they understand energy, how it works and what we need. And I give back to them in return, that reciprocity of nurturing support is what success means to me – having a beautiful life, one that includes your business.

People enrich our experience of this life and the right people will uplift, inspire and elevate you. For those people who might believe that success is just making loads of money and that’s all they want, then that’s OK for them. There’s no judgement needed here. It just depends what your intention is, and what the outcome that you desire is, right?

I hope you’ve enjoyed a little wander through my brainscape, there’s more to come from this fabulous conversation so stay tuned!
